The Farlander Papers
The Farlander Papers is a companion book found only in the "Limited Edition" version of X-Wing game (the original floppy disk based release) written by Rusel DeMaria.
The book contained a short story about Keyan Farlander's assignment in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In some points the narration breaks when Keyan opens a Rebel pamphlet which contained "A Call to Reason", spec sheets for the various spacecraft in the game, a "who's who" for the races and characters of the galaxy and much more. When he finishes reading, the narrative continues to Farlander's first mission.
It serves as a scene-setter and provides helpful information for playing the game. The "Limited Edition" versions are identifiable only by a small round sticker on the front of the box.
Much of the story was later included and expanded as part of X-Wing: The Official Strategy Guide, though it was largely rewritten and some parts of the story were left out in order to maintain The Farlander Papers status as a collector's item.
