Lazerian (star)
- "Lazerian system, star: Lazerian."
- ―Lazerian system datafile
Lazerian was a class G moderate-sized yellow star, and the star of the Lazerian system. It was orbited by eight planets—including the Lazerian system's center of population and commerce, Lazerian IV—as well as the Rokwahl Asteroid Belt. Other planets orbiting the star included Acorvus, a penal colony; Dborian, a mining colony; and the uninhabitable planets Alkur, Kelro, Lazerian VI, Lazerian VII, and Lazerian IX. Lazerian, within the Lazerian system, was present in the Kira sector, in the Trailing Sectors portion of the Expansion Region.
With the Lazerian system situated along the Harrin Trade Corridor and the endpoint of the Kira Run hyperlanes, Lazerian became known as one of the "Twin Stars of Kira", alongside Ropagi of the Ropagi system. The name was also attributed to the Lazerian and Ropagi systems' status as the only other star systems present on the Kira run, aside from the Kira system itself.
Description
Lazerian, a moderate-sized yellow star, was the class G star of the Lazerian system. With the Lazerian system's position on the endpoint of the Kira Run hyperlane, Lazerian was known as one of the "Twin Stars of Kira," alongside the star Ropagi of the Ropagi system; both systems' presence as the only ones other than the Kira system on the Kira run also gave credence to their nickname. It was located within the Kira sector,[2] in the Trailing Sectors portion of the Expansion Region.[1] As was the case with the full Lazerian system, Lazerian itself was found along the trade route known as the Harrin Trade Corridor, alongside the Kira Run.[3]
Lazerian captured eight planets in its orbit: Alkur, Kelro, Acorvus, Lazerian IV, Dborian, Lazerian VI, Lazerian VII, and Lazerian IX, in order of closest to farthest orbit. Resting in between the orbits of Lazerian VII and Lazerian IX was the Rokwahl Asteroid Belt, an asteroid belt utilized for mining purposes. Several transponder buoys orbited Lazerian as well, and were used to allow starship traffic to pass through Rokwahl unharmed. Lazerian IV was the center of the system's population, and was home to a Human population known as Lazerians, as well as the native, aquatic Akwin. Dborian, meanwhile, was utilized as a mining colony, while Acorvus was a penal colony.[3]
History
In approximately 70 BBY,[5] the Kira Run was established between the Lazerian and Ropagi systems,[6] and connected the Harrin Trade Corridor to the Enarc Run.[7] As the Lazerian system served as one of the two endpoints for the hyperlane, its star, Lazerian, became known as one of the "Twin Stars of Kira."[3] The founding of the Kira Run bolstered an increase in accessibility and trade for both systems, though it was believed to be too dangerous for frequent use. As a result, it was only braved by desperate traders, many of whom met their ends attempting to travel through it.[7]
In 0 ABY,[8] numerous small shipping companies became dedicated to servicing the Kira Run, rendering it safe to travel and cementing its place as an established trade route. With the prediction that any megacorporations deeming the Kira Run a safe route could bolster trade and commerce in the route and the areas surrounding, it was speculated by the Herglic Trading Journal that the Lazerian system's own economy would explode.[7]
Behind the scenes
Lazerian was created by John Terra and introduced in Twin Stars of Kira, a 1993 supplement to West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Lazerian system, and therefore Lazerian itself, in grid square N-15.[1]

Today in History — HoloNet News Vol. 531 #52 (content now obsolete; backup link) is dated to 13:4:18 GrS, and states that the Kira Run was established 48 years prior to that day. AsA Guide to the Star Wars Universe establishes the last number in the Great ReSynchronization format to indicate the day, while the first and second indicate the year and month, respectively, and the year listed on the page is approximately 22 years prior, it can be assumed that the page is dated to approximately 22 BBY. As the Kira Run was stated to be established 48 years prior to the date on the page, this means the Kira Run was founded in approximately 70 BBY.

"Galaxywide NewsNets" – Star Wars Adventure Journal 3 states that the article regarding the Kira Run opening up to mainstream trade was published on 35:3:14. As A Guide to the Star Wars Universe establishes the last number in the Great ReSynchronization format to indicate the day, while the first and second indicate the year and month, respectively, the article must have been published seven days after the Battle of Yavin, which corresponds to 0 ABY according to The New Essential Chronology. The article also refers to the founding of the Kira Run decades prior to its publication, which would have occurred decades prior to the Battle of Yavin.
