Void Spider TX-3 Air Taxi
The Void Spider TX-3 Air Taxi, also called Void Spider THX 1138, was an enclosed airspeeder built by Bespin Motors and a type of air taxi. It had a length of 7.6 meters and came equipped with eight engines, placed at the bottom of eight legs. These supported the speeder when on the ground and could function independently in the air.
A Void Spider was in the streets of Mos Eisley when Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Skywalker's droids arrived there shortly before the Battle of Yavin.[1]
Behind the scenes
This vehicle could be seen in Mos Eisley in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope[1], and blueprints of the prop were featured in the 1977 Star Wars Blueprints collections. Those blueprints named it "The Void-Spider Land-Speeder TX-3."[2]
Mission to Lianna describes the Void Spider TX-3 as a landspeeder, with a maximum altitude of only one meter. The Star Wars Sourcebook mentions that it's one of the most popular landspeeders (instead of airspeeder), but doesn't give more details.
