Model G8

The Model G8 was a military blaster rifle produced by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc.

Description

Manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc., the Model G8 was military-grade blaster rifle. The weapon had a maximum range of three hundred and fifty meters; however, the greater range of the weapon meant that the Model G8 was more expensive than equivalent blaster rifles, retailing for between 1,100 and 1,250 credits. Weighing four and a half kilograms, the Model G8's housing was also more fragile and did not stand up to extensive wear and tear.

History

Produced during the last decades of the Galactic Republic, the Model G8 was a weapon popular with police forces and authorities around the Tion Hegemony and Hutt Space. During the final years of the Republic, the Rodian Drokka exhibited the weapon at the Cularin Trade Show.

During the early years of the Galactic Empire, these institutions around the Tion and Hutt Space sold the weapons on the Alliance to Restore the Republic, causing the Model G8 to be a common weapon on the battlefields, though not to the extent of the E-11 blaster rifle. Alliance soldiers found that the longer range of the Model G8 allowed them to maintain the advantage in ambushes against stormtroopers, although they were not as reliable or versatile as the E-11.
