Cybernetic hibernation was a form of suspended animation that was used in the time before the invention of the hyperdrive. Space travelers used cybernetic hibernation for intra-system travel to avoid spending years or decades in transit between planets. The use of cybernetic hibernation ended once hyperdrive technology had become commonplace.[1]
Behind the scenes
In The Star Wars Sourcebook, published in 1987, the term was spelt as "cybernetic hybernation." With the reprinting of the material in 1994 to update the roleplaying game stats for the Second Edition, the spelling was revised to "cybernetic hibernation."
