The Cron Drift was a giant asteroid field located within the Auril sector in the Outer Rim, near the Perlemian Trade Route, the Cronese Mandate and the Tion Cluster.

Description

The Drift was once was a small nebula of considerable beauty and dynamics; however, during the Great Sith War, a Sith device used to manipulate matter within the cores of stars caused the detonation of the nearby Cron Cluster stellar group, destroying nearby planets and forming the asteroid field. The Cron Drift held a reputation as a hiding place for all sorts of activity such as pirating, looting, and smuggling of illicit materials.

History

Old Republic

In 3996 BBY Aleema Keto used Sith magic along with the ancient ship Corsair to destroy the nebula known at the time as the Cron Cluster, creating the Cron Drift. During the Cron Supernova, all planetary bodies in the vicinity were smashed, with the debris becoming scattered throughout the region. Dalos IV, Belderone, Kulthis, Ossus, and Nespis VIII were closest to the explosion and affected by the detonation.

Rise of the Empire

Sometime before the Invasion of Naboo, Force-sensitive Umbaran Sly Moore was captured and imprisoned by Darth Maul in a tomb located within the Cron Drift. She was tormented by ancient Sith as a test before being retrieved by Darth Sidious.

Han Solo and Chewbacca tried a clotheslegging scheme in the Cron Drift in 2 BBY.[4]

Galactic Civil War

Rebel communications outpost AX-235 was located in the Cron Drift during the war. During a rendezvous between Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transport Magnus, BFF-1 bulk freighter Ojai, and CR90 corvette Jeffrey delivering supplies and stolen Imperial communications satellites to the outpost, an Imperial force consisting of four Imperial DX-9s escorted by assault gunboats attacked the outpost.[2] The Imperials were defeated by X-wings piloted by Keyan Farlander and Puck Naeco, allowing the transfer to take place. The satellites later proved essential in discovering the Death Star project.[5]

Behind the scenes

A galaxy map depicting the various destinations of the Star Tours travel agency is seen in the queue of the Star Tours attraction at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. The map erroneously suggests Yavin 4 is in the Cron Drift, which is contradicted by many Legends sources.
