Commando Mission
Commando Mission is a short story written by Bill Slavicsek and originally published in the Heir to the Empire Sourcebook. It was later reprinted in The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook. Occurring briefly after the entries on Lieutenant Page and the Katarn Commandos, it follows a brief mission undertaken by Page and five of his commandos on the planet Hettsk.
Plot summary
Lieutenant Page, Frorral, Idow, Vandro, Lilla Dade, and Jortan are on the planet Hettsk following a battle on the Borderland Regions world between the New Republic and the Galactic Empire that resulted in an Imperial victory. Their mission is to retrieve Wing Commander Greni and her wingmate Bross, two members of Gold Squadron who were shot down during the battle. A group of Imperial stormtroopers are bringing the downed pilots back to base, but make camp in the planet's dense forests at sunset. Page approaches their HAVr A9 Floating Fortress and feigns surrender, and is then joined by his commandos in quickly disposing of the Imperials and rescuing the pilots.
