Blizzard Scout 1 was a prototype All Terrain Scout Transport manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards and serving in the Imperial Army's Blizzard Force unit by 3 ABY. Description

Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards,[1] Blizzard Scout 1 was a prototype[4] enclosed All Terrain Scout Transport serving in the Galactic Empire's army during the Galactic Civil War fought between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[2] Blizzard Scout 1 was modified for cold weather combat,[2] and its crew consisted of a pilot and a gunner.[3]

History

Blizzard Scout 1 walks past Luke Skywalker during the Battle of Hoth.

By 3 ABY,[5] Blizzard Scout 1 was attached to the Empire's Blizzard Force unit,[2] and was occupied by Lieutenant Arnet[4] and Commander Igar.[6] In 3 ABY, the Empire discovered Echo Base, the Alliance's hidden headquarters located on the planet Hoth, leading to a ground invasion of the facility.[5] General Maximilian Veers, Blizzard Force's commanding officer, led the ground assault.[7]

Arnet operated Blizzard Scout 1[4] during the battle, where the All Terrain Scout Transport provided flanking support and cover fire for Blizzard Force's All Terrain Armored Transports and cold assault stormtroopers.[6] Blizzard Scout 1 was walking near the All Terrain Armored Transport Blizzard 4 when Alliance Commander Luke Skywalker destroyed the latter walker.[7] Igar[8] and Arnet survived the battle,[4] which ended in an Imperial victory over the Alliance.[7]

Behind the scenes

Blizzard Scout 1 first appeared in the 1980 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back,[7] with its scene filmed at Elstree Studios's stage 2 between July 25 and July 27, 1979.[9] In 1996, the Blizzard Scout 1 name was coined by a card for the Hoth Limited expansion set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, though the image used was not an Empire Strikes Back film still.[2] The 1998 Star Wars: Behind the Magic CD-ROM later identified Blizzard Scout 1 as an All Terrain Scout Transport from The Empire Strikes Back.[10]
