Igar/Legends
- "This is a Rebel that surrendered to us. Although he denies it, I believe there may be more of them, and I request permission to conduct a further search of the area."
- ―Commander Igar delivering Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader
Igar served as a Imperial commander in the Imperial Army. He was stationed at the Sanctuary Moon of Endor at the time of the Rebel Alliance's attack to the shield generator that protected the second Death Star.[2]
Biography
- "He was armed only with this."
"Good work, Commander. Leave us. Conduct your search and bring his companions to me."
"Yes, my lord." - ―Igar and Darth Vader as the former hands the latter Luke Skywalker's lightsaber
Igar was born on Kuat. Prior to 3 ABY, he joined the Imperial Army and gained the rank of Commander. In 3 ABY, he served with General Maximilian Veers' Blizzard Force at the Battle of Hoth. In 4 ABY, he was later assigned by Darth Vader to coordinate the surface defense of Endor[1], alongside Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod and Colonel Dyer[3] as part of Emperor Palpatine's trap for the Rebels. Palpatine planned to trick the Rebels into attacking the incomplete Death Star II, which orbited the Endor moon by releasing information that showed the battlestation's location. Palpatine hoped the Rebels would send in a strike team to the forest moon to deactivate the Death Star's shield generator, only for them to be captured by Igar's defenses.[2]
As part of the plan, Igar deployed 74-Z speeder bikes and AT-STs.[4][5] He selected the most dedicated stormtroopers to serve him[6] from a unit recommended to him by Imperial Governor Yount from the Wakeelmui garrison.[source?] He also had a personal honor guard[7] and was the commanding officer of the AT-AT, Tempest 1.[8]
When a member of the Rebel strike team that Palpatine had lured there, Luke Skywalker, surrendered to the Imperial forces, Commander Igar personally took the prisoner to Lord Vader, and expressed his belief that there were more Rebels hidden in the forests, regardless of Skywalker's claims to the contrary. He then handed Skywalker's new lightsaber to Vader and returned to Tempest 1 to start his search for the Rebels. Later, when the Rebel commando team infiltrated the shield bunker, Igar and Dyer were expecting them and sent in troops to capture them. Though Dyer was killed in the capture, the Imperials were initially victorious until a tribe of Ewoks assisting the Rebels, attacked them, resulting in all out chaos.[2]
Behind the scenes
Igar was played by William Hoyland. In the novelization of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, in place of Commander Igar, Luke Skywalker is handed to Darth Vader by a stormtrooper captain and his men. The captain says the same lines as Igar, and it is he who continues the search for Rebels in the Endor forests.
