"And the Band Played On: The Band's Tale" is a short story by John Gregory Betancourt focusing on the Max Rebo Band picking the wrong time, place, and employer for a gig. It appears in the anthology Tales from Jabba's Palace, published by Bantam Spectra December 1, 1995. Because of its publication before the release of the Special Edition in 1997, several members of the Max Rebo Band who first appeared in the Special Edition do not appear in this story.
