Testing probe
- "You there, get me the tuning stylus."
"Yes, sir."
"No, no, no. I said the tuning stylus, you idiot!" - ―8t88 asks Rol for a tuning stylus, but gets a testing probe instead
A testing probe was a kind of tool. After the droid informant 8t88 lost an arm on the moon Nar Shaddaa[1] during the year 5 ABY,[2] he attempted to repair himself after traveling to the moon Sulon for business related to the Galactic Empire. While attaching a new arm to his body, 8t88 asked his bodyguard Rol to hand him a tuning stylus, but instead received a testing probe, as Rol could not tell the difference between the two tools. 8t88 angrily discarded the testing probe and used the tuning stylus to install his new arm with.[1]
Behind the scenes
The ill-detailed testing probe first appeared in the 1998 novella Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, which was written by William C. Dietz. The nature of the probe was not explicitly defined, although due to the name it is arguably used for testing.[1] The tool also briefly appears in Rebel Agent's audio drama adaption. However, it is not explicitly identified in the audio drama.[3]
