Padded armor was a type of battle armor, but was typically much lighter than most. This allowed more flexibility and movement to the wearer. Yet because of this, it was much less resistant to damage than the average battle armor.

Description

Padded armors offered protection against kinetic damage as well as from energy-based weapons like blasters.[1] A typical complete armor set included helmet, chest plate, left & right biceps, left & right bracers, gloves, belt, leggings and boots. Padded armor also came in a wide variety of colors.[6]

A model of padded armor was the Covert Ops armor sometimes used by spies.[20] Another model was the Alliance Cold Weather armor.[21]

History

During the Cold War, the Twi'lek Vette was known to sometimes wear padded armor.[19] A padded chest plate was allegedly worn by Melnea Arnthout at the time of the crash of the Dowager Queen and the subsequent settlement of Tatooine.[2]

Padded armors were widely used during the Galactic Civil War.[6] They were worn for instance by Imperial Army scouts,[22] by Rebel guard captains and Alliance SpecForce personnel,[6] including cold weather commandos,[21] and by numerous criminals as well.[6]

The bounty hunters Boba Fett and Dengar also both wore varieties of padded battle armor.[11]

After the Battle of Yavin, a trader encountered the Sanyassan Marauder armorsmith Macchbraus on the Forest Moon of Endor. Macchbraus requested the trader to craft him bone, composite, Mabari and padded armors in exchange for teaching him to create Marauder armors.[23]

Behind the scenes

Padded armor was a type of armor used by players in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[6] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[24]
