"Wear the hat. I don't care if it looks goofy or you can't see. Hypothermia is the alternative."
―An Alliance quartermaster[8]

The Alliance Cold Weather armor was an insulated armor worn during the Galactic Civil War by the troops of the Rebel Alliance operating in extremely frigid environment. During the Battle of Hoth, the outfit provided protection to Rebel soldiers against the planet's cold conditions.

The Alliance Cold Weather armor was a light colored padded armor designed to resist the most extreme cold temperatures.[9] It offered a high degree of protection against energy-based weapons like blasters but lesser protection from kinetic damage. The complete armor set consisted of a headgear[1] that incorporated face mask, anti-glare goggles and a scarf,[10] a padded vest, padding for each bicep, bracers for each forearm, darker-colored gloves, a belt, darker-colored leggings, boots and a backpack.[1] The jacket was worn over a padded or lightweight long-sleeved tunic. Members stationed inside the base typically wore a vest with a high padded collar, while those serving on the Hoth exterior wore a smaller, thicker vest without a collar that fit over their jacket. Both versions of the vest could be adorned with the individual's rank insignia.[2] The backpack contained equipment intended to protect the wearer from hypothermia such as a small heater and survival gear.[11]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Alliance Cold Weather armor was the primary outfit worn by Rebel troopers deployed on frozen worlds,[2][6][7] including Hoth, Rhen Var,[7] Alzoc III, Ilum and Polus.[6] The armor was also used by specialized infantry such as Rebel marksmen, vanguards,[7] medics,[12] tauntaun troopers,[2] as well as the SpecForces' Wilderness Fighters.[13]

In 3 ABY, by the time of the Battle of Hoth, the Cold Weather armor equipped virtually all the personnel serving at Echo Base, the Alliance High Command headquarters, on the remote ice planet Hoth.[2]

Years later, the Jedi Jaden Korr wore a similar outfit during a mission on Hoth during the Disciples of Ragnos crisis.[4]
