Maritimas were a type of venomous green snakes. They commonly lived in high mountainous areas on the planet of Kessel. Those creatures' limbless bodies were mostly covered with hexagonal scales, with a series of broad lamellar scales on the belly. The top of their heads sported three horns, and Maritimas also possessed a rattler at the end of their tail.[1] In 0 BBY, just before rescuing Princess Leia Organa from the first Death Star, the Jedi Apprentice named Luke Skywalker encountered these creatures while attempting to rescue his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, from the clutches of Gyaos Vader.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Maritimas first appeared in the 1987 Japanese Star Wars video game for the Famicom home console, although the game's canonicity was ambiguous.[3] Their name was revealed in the Japanese language manual of the game, in which it was rendered as マリティマ (Maritima) in katakana syllabary.[1]
