"These ill-tempered trash-diggers have been traced to Escabar, but they appeared to have stowed away on some early vessel from that planet and propagated themselves across the known worlds."
―An individual, on the borcatu[3]

Escabar was a planet[3] located in the Escabar system, a part of the freestanding subsectors of the Expansion Region.[1] It featured the regions Khrassh and Serhan, the latter of which had deserts in its northeastern areas. Despite the fierce sandstorms of those territories, the small, quadripedal scavenger creatures known as the borcatu evolved there, adapting for digging burrows and cracking open shells.[3]

At some point, interstellar spaceports were built and opened on Escabar. When traders from Khrassh crossed the Serhan deserts on their way to the ports, several borcatu climbed aboard the departing starships unnoticed and left the planet. Over time, populations of the creatures spread across the galaxy, with the species eventually being traced back to their homeworld. 150 standard years after Escabar became a member of the galactic economy, an individual described the origin of the borcatu on Escabar and the creatures' spread from the planet.[3] Between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, Escabar was a part of the New Republic.[4]

Behind the scenes

Escabar was first mentioned in the 1994 sourcebook Creatures of the Galaxy, specifically in the short companion narrative "A Widespread Scavenger" that was authored by Phil Brucato.[3] The book was published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Escabar system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square I-8.[2]
