The Galactic Empire was a state comprising over twelve million member worlds and fifty million colonies, protectorates, and governorships throughout the Galaxy stretching from the borders of the Deep Core to Wild Space. It was founded in 19 BBY, fragmented with the death of Emperor Palpatine in 4 ABY, and then reorganized in 19 ABY with the signing of the Pellaeon–Gavrisom Treaty in Star Wars Legends, and restored in 35 ABY as the Sith Eternal in Star Wars Canon.
