"This is our recreation of the beloved childhood favorite, prepared with freshly ground ettel nuts and gourmet Andorian jelly. Served on bleached pseudograin bread."
―The menu at Dex's description of the deluxe nutmeat and jelly sandwich[2]

Andorian jelly was an ingredient used in cooking during the reign of the Galactic Republic. It was used in two dishes served at the eatery known as Dex's Diner on the planet Coruscant, the deluxe nutmeat and jelly sandwich and a breakfast side in which it was spread on Mustafarian toast.

History

It was used as part of two dishes served at the eatery known as Dex's Diner located in the CoCo Town district of the planet Coruscant and run by the Besalisk chef Dexter Jettster's. The first dish consisted of the jelly spread on Mustafarian toast with Bantha butter, and was sold as a breakfast side dish for 1.7. The second was the deluxe nutmeat and jelly sandwich, which was a recreation of a dish favored in some patrons' childhoods and consisted of ground ettel nuts and a gourmet make of the jelly spread on bleached pseudograin bread. The sandwich was sold as a lunch dish for 4.5 and both it and the breakfast side were served at Dex's[2] prior to its destruction in around 18 BBY.[3] Ando was a planet located in the Mid Rim region of the galaxy.[4]

Behind the scenes

Andorian jelly was first mentioned in the audio drama based on the Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Jedi: The Freedon Nadd Uprising comic book series. The comics, which made no mention of the jelly, were written by Tom Veitch while the audiodrama was written by John Whitman. The jelly later received another mention in the 2009 Hyperspace exclusive article, "Dining at Dex's," which was written by Gregory Walker. Neither source makes clear the connection between the jelly and Ando.
