"I want some coffee. But I guess I'll have to settle for that gondar sweat those machines are puttin' out."
Triv Pothman[2]

The gondar was a species of tusked creatures. Gondar pits were said to smell bad,[2][3] and Triv Pothman compared poor-tasting coffee to the sweat of a gondar while onboard the Eye of Palpatine in the year 12 ABY.[4] Their tusks were used in armor, such as Tantel armor,[1][5] or as decorations.[6] While using the alias of Tamtel Skreej when rescuing a carbonite frozen Han Solo from Jabba's Palace[1] in 4 ABY,[7] Lando Calrissian was wearing a set of Tantel armor, of which the helmet had curved, white gondar tusks protruding from it.[1]

Behind the scenes

Gondar tusks first appeared as part of Billy Dee Williams' Tamtel Skreej costume, which was designed by Nilo Rodis-Jamero and Aggie Guerard Rodgers for Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi[8] The movie was released in 1983,[9] but the tusks were not identified as belonging to a gondar until Taster's Choice: The Tale of Jabba's Chef,[1] which was published in Tales from Jabba's Palace in January 1996.[10] Gondar tusks also appeared in Star Wars Galaxies, as part of a wearable version of Tantel armor, as well as an in-game painting, 30th Anniversary Bash, given out to players who attended Nym's Anniversary Bash,[5] which lasted from May 23 to June 25, 2007.[11] The gondar species itself was mentioned in Children of the Jedi, The New Rebellion, and The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, but their sentience was not detailed.
