A knobby white spider

A spider was a type of arachnid that was commonly found throughout the galaxy. Its familiarity led to its name being shared by plants, other creatures, and even droids and other technology that mimicked their form. Although most spiders were non-sentient, there were several sentient arachnoid species, such as the Arachnoids, the Spider People, the Araquia, the Harch, and the Sic-Six.
