Engine tape was a highly-adaptable adhesive that was produced in rolled strips. It was often considered one of the most vital things for a starship mechanic to possess within their arsenal of tools and equipment. Quite often spacers would joke about complex repair jobs having to rely on "engine tape and faith in the Force" for completion in an emergency situation.
Behind the scenes
It is functionally identical to mesh tape, space tape, and spacer's tape, which are all virtually identical to the real world's duct tape.
