Zanibar
- "Nobody, not even the Zanibar cannibals of Xo, wants to get on the Guild's bad side."
- ―Arack "Deadeye" Dostryt
The Zanibar were a cannibalistic sentient species native to the planet Xo.
Characteristics
- "Zanibar meat is delicious"
- ―Bossk on the Zanibar
The Zanibar were tall and thin sentient humanoids with grayish-blue skin and three-fingered hands. They were bald and had long skull-like faces with small black eyes.[1]
The species occupied at least one village on its homeworld of Xo, where the Zanibar performed a sacrificial ceremony believed to involve a feast of their victims' bodies to give their life forces to the Zanibar gods.[2]
History
Prior to the Clone Wars, Zanibar cannibals were involved in an incident in the Corporate Sector which created a lasting enmity between rival businessmen Dominic Raynor and Iaco Stark.[4]
Some Zanibar warriors became bounty hunters or mercenaries, accepting only sentients as payment that they could bring back to Xo and sacrifice, including a group allied with the crime lord Grappa the Hutt under the leadership of Zzzanmxl[1] in 11 ABY.[5] These Zanibar were unwilling to work with the Galactic Empire, instead relying on Grappa's services as a go-between.[6]
Behind the scenes
The Zanibar first appeared in the November 1998 Dark Horse Comics issue Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood 1, written by Mike Richardson and Randy Stradley and illustrated by Paul Gulacy.[7]
