WED-15-I7
WED-15-I7[3] was a WSB-15 sabotage droid, a fourth-degree military sabotage droid model physically identical to the WED Treadwell repair droid. WED-15-I7 was individually physically identical to the WED-15 Septoid Treadwell. The droid had eight manipulator arms, along with ten treaded wheels at its base. Possessing gray plating, WED-15-I7 had two red panels at the base above the treaded wheels, along with a pair of gray sensors.[1]
By 0 BBY,[4] WED-15-I7 served the Galactic Empire as a maintenance droid with a "Septoid" nickname[2]—both characteristic of the WED-15 Septoid Treadwell model the individual WSB-15 was physically identical to.[5] A fiercely loyal maintenance droid, WED-15-I7 specialized in extending Imperial resources' effective operational lives.[2]
Behind the scenes
WED-15-I7 was created for the 1996 A New Hope Limited set of the Decipher, Inc. Star Wars Customizable Card Game.[2] Of note, the October 5, 1998[6] Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary used the same image to represent another droid, WED 15 Septoid 2.[7] While the droid was called "WED15-I7" by A New Hope Limited,[2] June 30, 1998's[8] Star Wars Encyclopedia would call it "WED-15-I7."[3] This article treats the latter name as correct.
Discrepancies also exist with WED-15-I7's class. With A New Hope Limited describing it as a maintenance droid nicknamed "Septoid,"[2] the Star Wars Encyclopedia specifically identified it as a WED model droid.[2] 2002's 16th issue of The Official Star Wars Fact File magazine would picture WED-15-I7 and identify the droid as a WED-15 Septoid Treadwell.[5] However, in March 2008, Wizards of the Coast's roleplaying game sourcebook Threats of the Galaxy contradicted the previous materials by including a picture of WED-15-I7 in its entry for WSB-15 sabotage droids.[1] Although the December 9, 2008[9] The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia would again describe WED-15-I7 as a Septoid and a maintenance droid,[10] this article treats the droid's WSB-15 sabotage droid class as correct.
