Usage instructions

For citing Databank entries prior to the September 11, 2011 overhaul, see {{DB}}.

1. Find the correct article in the Encyclopedia
2. Create a Sources section, if needed, and copy the template code below and paste it into the appropriate place in an article, fill the required fields, and remove any that you don't use.

Note that care must be taken to avoid an incorrect link. "Category" refers to the characters, locations, technology, or groups domain. "Subject" refers to the specific entry's part of the URL.

As of July 1, 2014, most (but not all) Encyclopedia entries have been replaced with the new Databank entries on StarWars.com—citable with {{Databank}}. All entries were later replaced with the new Databank, with no Encyclopedia entries remaining.

Required parameters

• |category= Either characters, locations, technology, or groups. This can be found in the marked part of the following URL: http://starwars.com/explore/encyclopedia/characters/cadbane which would be characters in this instance.
• |subject= The specific entry's part of the URL, which can be found at the end of the page's URL marked as follows: http://starwars.com/explore/encyclopedia/characters/cadbane which would be cadbane in this instance.
• |text= The formatted text to display.
• For archive options, see Backup links below. Note: the default values for dates are centralized at Module:ArchiveAccess/SWE. This template will use the default value when omitting archivedate or archiveurl, but either can be provided to override the default value.

Unneccesary parameters

• |nolive= As the original online content is no longer available, the template will automatically add "content now obsolete;" to the citation, and therefore does NOT require the use of "|nolive=1" like with other citation templates.

Backup links

Instructions for providing a backup link In accordance with our Sourcing policy, all links to external sites must include a link to a backup version, preferably using Internet Archive. Instances that do not include one of the following parameters will result in the page being placed in the maintenance category. Please only use one of the following parameters. |archivedate=20250520205611 This parameter uses the timestamp feature of Internet Archive. The URL supplied earlier in the template, along with archivedate, will provide a link to Internet Archive. |archiveurl=https://archive.is/EfD8P If Internet Archive does not work for the link in question, you can use archiveurl to provide a full URL to another backup website, such as archive.is. |archivefile=File:Jon_Favreau_The_Mandalorian.png If none of the archiving sites work, then provide a link to a screenshot of the page, uploaded to Wookieepedia, as per Wookieepedia:Mofferences/June 29, 2014. |nobackup=1 If no backup link can be found for content that is no longer available, this parameter can be used. If the content is still available, you can screenshot and upload it to Wookieepedia instead. |nolive=1 If the original content is no longer available, this parameter can be used, which will make the template add "content now obsolete;" to the citation. This may also mean a backup link can no longer be provided, and therefore may be used as well as |nobackup=1. Some citation templates such as {{SWArchive}} link to older content that is known to be no longer available, and therefore automatically default to |nolive=1 without the need to add the parameter manually. Note that for citation templates using a central repository (/Archive subpage), archivedate values must be added to the repository, and not on the individual instance of those templates.
