Survival Class
Survival Class was a short story written by Peter M. Schweighofer, and it appeared in the "Command Crew" section of the The DarkStryder Campaign's Campaign Book. It depicted an incident when Ranna Gorjaye and a junior officer called Calson crash-landed in the Wilds during a training patrol.
Plot
A furious Ranna Gorjaye pulls her wingman, Calson, out of his fighter. She angrily berates him for crowding the formation, clipping her wing and causing them both to crash into the Wilds. When Gorjaye tells Calson that he would have to follow her orders if they wanted to survive and not be killed by corvajs. Calson refuses to take orders from a woman despite Gorjaye being in command.
Gorjaye finds a settlement located seventeen kilometers away. With only a few hours of light left, Gorjaye suggests moving out. Calson, however, wants to investigate something he saw while crashing and removes himself from her command. He disappears into the Wilds, using his blaster to shoot a trail. Gorjaye lets him go and begins heading to the settlement. Not long after, Gorjaye hears a Human scream and distinctive snarl of a corvaj.
