Sleens were slow and omnivorous lizards native to Dagobah. A swamp forager, it ate insects and preferred a damp and dark environment. It hunted the swamps and forests for insects and then went back to its hollowed out log or hole in the ground.

During the Cold War, sleen were also known to have inhabited the jungles of Dromund Kaas where they attacked unaware travelers. However, sleen were minor predators in those jungles.

Behind the scenes

The real-life counterpart for the sleen is a Monitor Lizard, more specifically a Water Monitor. A Water monitor was used to portray the species in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Contrary to the fictional sleen, Monitor lizards seem to eat mostly rodents, eggs, smaller lizards, and practically anything they can overpower.[source?]
