Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas is a 1983 biography of George Lucas written by Dale Pollock.

The book was updated in 1999 with new information about the Special Editions and the prequel trilogy. The later biography George Lucas: A Life was published in 2016.

Development

Skywalking was commissioned to tie in with the release of Return of the Jedi. Crown Publishing, who commissioned Pollock, wanted Skywalking to be completely unauthorized. Lucas, Pollock and Crown eventually came to a deal which allowed Pollock to write anything he wanted, but Lucas was able to cut anything he felt was factually inaccurate. Pollock was present on the set of Return of the Jedi and conducted more than eighty hours of interviews for the book.

After it was published, Lucas' friends told Pollock that Lucas only signed the deal because he hoped the retelling of their first meeting would give his wife, Marcia, incentive to not go through with their impending divorce. It was unsuccessful.[1]
