Shave-and-a-haircut was a short rhythmic figure. In 4 BBY, Lando Calrissian tapped the beginning of shave-and-a-haircut onto the deck plating covering the hidden floor compartments in the Millennium Falcon, which the Imperial narcotics officer Waywa Fybot was surreptitiously occupying at the time. Fybot, recognizing the pattern, responded by tapping its final two beats, thus confirming he was inside the compartment.

Behind the scenes

The real-world "Shave and a Haircut" is a seven-note musical couplet recognizable in popular culture, the rhythm of which is often used without its melody. In its only Star Wars appearance, it is purely rhythmic, with no melodic component.
