Scanoven

A scanoven was a device. Multiple scanovens were located in the galley of the Celestial, a Rebel prison ship. Sometime during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, the Celestial's hyperdrive malfunctioned and the ship fell into otherspace, a realm between realspace and hyperspace.

Some time later, a group of Rebels—who were intending to rendezvous with the Celestial in realspace—also accidentally entered otherspace in their attempts to escape from an Imperial Star Destroyer and its complement of TIE Fighters. They boarded the Celestial and came across the scanovens in the ship's galley while searching the ship for clues to its fate.

Behind the scenes

Scanovens appeared in the 1989 West End Games campaign book Otherspace for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The player character rebels may not necessarily explore the galley of the Celestial.
