Receptive empathy was a Ta-Ree spell capable of being wielded by Ascendants on the planet Kathol. The spell allowed the caster to read the surface thoughts and the emotions of another individual. The Ascendant can determine the individual's current thoughts but could not probe for further information. The spell could be used on sentient beings and creatures but not droids.
Ascendants who wished to cast the spell were required to know the sense life spell.
