Rebel Sector Command Bases were smaller versions of the Rebel Alliance's High Command Base (e.g. the High Command Base Echo Base on Hoth), in which lower-level governmental and military officials did for the sector what the Alliance High Command did in regards for the Rebel Alliance in its entirety.

Characteristics

Sector Command Bases usually housed the sector command's entire starfighter complement. Not only were they the sector's center for command and control but they also provided the sector's primary offensive arm. If a sector base was destroyed by the Imperials, it left the sector's rebel forces without any space protection and cut off from communication with each other. Forcing them to go into hiding until contact with the Alliance High Command was reestablished. Sector command bases were normally under the control of that sector's chief executive, the highest-ranking civilian official whose authority over the sector was similar to that which Mon Mothma had over the Alliance.

Housed within the sector command base were most of the high-level intelligence officials in that sectors, and many of it's highest-level military officers including the sector military commander. Individuals who were in charge of coordinating the sector's military operations with both other sectors and the Alliance High Command. The base also housed the security personnel and military units assigned to the base, in addition to medical officers, communications specialists, mechanics, cooks, maintenance personnel, and servants. Depending on the base's location and the odds of an Imperial attack, the base could contain up to 1,000 infantrymen, plus defensive artillery and combat vehicles. The base's primary defense was its invisibility, therefore if the Imperials discovered the base, it's days were severely numbered. The best that the defenders could accomplish was to delay the Imperials long enough for the base to be evacuated.

Sector command bases were equipped with communication equipment that gave them the ability to communicate with Rebel units throughout their sector, as well as other second commands. Usually the base would also possess starfighter repair equipment, was well stocked with infantry weapons and gear (including speeders and speeder bikes), came equipped with intelligence-gathering equipment, and had medical facilities.[1]
