The R-23 paraglider or R-23 recreational paraglider was sturdier and more aerodynamic than microweights. They used smaller repulsorlifts for assisting with takeoffs, landings and difficult maneuvers. They could stay aloft almost indefinitely and were popular with recreational flyers.

It was possible to modify the paraglider for military use by installing weapons straps, stronger replusorlifts or sensor-baffling material.
