Permafrost was a kind of surface found on planets with freezing temperatures.

The AT-STs assigned to Blizzard Force carried special sensors that ensured Hoth's permafrost could support the larger AT-ATs.[2]

Alexsandr "Trooper" Badure commented that the commandant at the Imperial Academy turned "cold as permafrost" after being corrected by Cadet Han Solo prior to a training mission.[3]
