Mucous salamanders, also known as pinkish salamanders, were amphibious reptiles native to the bogs of Yavin 4.

They possessed a unique molecular structure that "loosened" underwater. When submerged, body cells would become porous and amorphous, held together randomly by a subtle electric current. In this state (lasting for as long as it is underwater) it could safely pass through anglers' clutches. It regained solidity back on land.

Within his first month at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum, Jacen Solo captured a number of the creatures.
