A measuring scanner, also known as a cargo scanner, was a scanning device used by smugglers and freighter captains to figure out which cargoes fit best into which cargo bays. Measuring scanners calculated mass and volume and could also be programmed to take into account the dimensions and density of almost any object. They could not identify the contents of sealed cargo cases, though.

One popular model was the handheld Fabritech A-11 cargo scanner, which was easy to operate and had a radius of 10 meters.
