The Mairans were an aquatic, multi-tentacled species from Maires.[1] They shunned those of their kind with Force abilities, including Jedi Master Gar Anstak.[2] They had the ability to stay hours on dry land only if showered periodically by tanks they wore on their backs. They sported two eye membranes, over forty tentacles, and had a music-like language played on a shell flute, but were capable of speaking Basic.[1]
The Mairans had a traditional rivalry with the Vergills, as evidenced when they established a consulate on Hapes directly on a ditanium vein where they knew a Vergill mining company was to begin mining a short while later.[1]
