The Locris Syndicated Securities MCI-200 magnaharness was a restraining device that used the micro magnetic field technology of the MagnaCuffs, but to a greater extent: It tied up a person's neck and trunk, preventing the prey from escaping. The MCI-200 was used by bounty hunters such as Tyrn Jiton. It could be bought through the illegal Gundark's Gear Datalog, where Lloco posted about its imperfections.
Description
The MCI-200 magnaharness was used to restrain the movements of a victim. It was attached to the person's collar and thorax, but it also included optional clips to tie up arms, hands, upper part of the legs, lower part of the legs and feet. The harness used the same micro magnetic fields present in MagnaCuffs to keep the clips locked.[1]
History
The MCI-200 was developed by Locris Syndicated Securities and was available for 200 credits during the Galactic Civil War.[1] It could be bought through the illegal Gundark's Gear Datalog. A person self-identified as Lloco posted that a friend of his restrained a prisoner with a MCI-200 and failed to watch him; but the prisoner had a hidden comlink and could call for help. Due to this, Lloco suggested that users of MCI-200 should not relax completely, as the item was not perfect.[2]
During the times of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the MCI-200 was used by several bounty hunters, including Tyrn Jiton.[1] By 7 ABY, Jiton had stopped using it.[3]
Behind the scenes
The MCI-200 was first described in Galaxy Guide 10: Bounty Hunters (1994), and then all the text describing it was repeated in Gundark's Fantastic Technology: Personal Gear (1997), with two differences: Gundark's Fantastic Technology added an anecdote told by Lloco, and misspelled "neck" as "next". Both sources describe the magnaharness as using the technology of the MagnaCuffs, which is understood as the restraining technology. The MagnaCuffs are also described as using a fingerprint identification system to replace a key,[1] but sources do not detail whether the magnaharness reproduce this or not.
