Limpet mine

Limpet mines were a type of shaped directional explosive.

Characteristics

Limpet mines were small disc-shaped explosives designed to take out tanks, heavy vehicles, fortifications, and other armored surfaces. One side of the mine was coated with microbeads of adhesive that activated on hard contact with a flat surface (such as the side of a tank), ensuring solid adhesion of the mine to its target. On activation, the mine detonated in a one meter burst; because of its shaped charge, the mine did negligible damage outside of this burst, directing its explosive energy towards the surface it was attached to.

History

Limpet mines were used by the Poss'Nomin pirate Reginald Barkbone.
