Kile II
- "Rogue Squadron, this is General Rieekan. Excellent work. The sensor array and spaceport facilities on Kile II are now inoperable. Imperial activities are sure to slow down in this sector!"
- ―General Carlist Rieekan, to Rogue Squadron following the Assault on Kile II
Kile II was a terrestrial and geologically unstable Outer Rim planet located in the Jospro sector. Within its canyons, the Galactic Empire established multiple installations, including a sensor array and the spaceport Enclave, an enormous facility that supported the Empire's naval operations in the sector. During the Galactic Civil War, the planet was the site of a battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, ending in a victory for the latter.
Description
Kile II was a geologically unstable terrestrial planet that occupied the second orbital position[3] in the Kile system,[1] a part of the Jospro sector[2] in the Slice portion of the Outer Rim Territories. It was connected to the Dernatine and Sy Myrth systems via the Salin Corridor hyperlane.[1] Kile II had a breathable atmosphere, and its terrain consisted of canyons.[4]
History
- "Rogues, listen up. Kasan has given us another Imperial military location. It's a large spaceport located at the end of this canyon. We're using Y-wings because of their greater firepower, but they move like a sleepy Hutt, so watch it."
- ―Rogue Leader Luke Skywalker, to Rogue Squadron

A portion of Kile II's surface was once filled with waters that eventually evaporated to form canyons. At some point during its reign, the Galactic Empire established a presence on Kile II, building an immense spaceport known as the Enclave, a sensor array, and multiple other installations, in addition to maintaining numerous garrisons within the canyons.[5] Between 0.5 ABY and 3 ABY,[6] during the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance, using information provided by Imperial defector Kasan Moor, dispatched Rogue Squadron to the planet in order to attack the spaceport and sensor array with the aim of hampering Imperial naval operations in the Jospro sector.[4]
Flying Y-wing starfighters, Rogue Squadron navigated through the canyons and managed to destroy the sensor array,[3] including all of its defenses.[4] The squadron then defeated the garrisons before following an Imperial shuttle to the Enclave[3] and eliminating it and all defending Imperials as well. Ultimately, all of the Imperial installations on Kile II were destroyed.[4]
During the raid, however, Rogue Squadron pilot Wedge Antilles' Y-wing was heavily damaged by a group of TIE Interceptors, forcing him to make a landing. He was subsequently captured by Imperials and sent to[4] the prison planet[7] Kessel.[4]
Inhabitants
Prior to the attack on Kile II, Imperial personnel were stationed within the canyons, including a number of stormtroopers.[4]
Locations
Kile II's canyons hosted multiple Imperial installations, including the Enclave, which served as the chief base of naval operations in the sector, and a sensor array, which was built to detect any incoming Rebel forces before they could reach striking distance. Defenses for those installations included XX-9 heavy turbolasers and missile turrets.[4]
Behind the scenes
Kile II first appeared in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, a 1998 video game by Factor 5, serving as the setting of the eighth mission, "Assault on Kile II."[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Kile system, and therefore Kile II, in grid square S-7.[1]

- ↑ The Assault on Kile II, depicted in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, takes place between the rescue of Crix Madine and the Battle of Hoth. As The New Essential Chronology places the rescue between 0.5 ABY and 2 ABY and the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY, respectively, the Assault on Kile II must take place between 0.5 ABY and 3 ABY.
