Intake

Intakes or cooling vents were crucial engine components. On sublight drives, such as the Hoersch-Kessel ion drive, the intakes had to be in precise alignment with the firing cells for maximum efficiency, and had to be maintained on a regular basis. Four intakes were used on Quadex's Kyromaster engine, divided by splitter plates, to dissipate heat exhaust.[1] Intake mechanisms were also used on jetpacks to pull atmosphere into the device's ignition chamber where it mixed with fuel to produce thrust. Intake mechanisms also worked in conjunction with exhaust vanes to control the flight of the jetpack.[2]
