An ID profile was an electronic signal emitted from starships that contained relevant identification details for the ship. These included its name and registration number, the name of its owner, and its home port. It also included technical information such as the starship's classification, armament and power-plant ratings. The encoded ID profile was sent by a ship's transponder when it received a query from an interrogator module; typically installed in military vessels and spaceport control towers.[1]
It was illegal to modify or alter an ID profile, although, with some difficulty, it was possible to do so.[1]
