Rystáll Sant, a Theelin/Human hybrid

A hybrid was an individual with parentage from more than one sentient species.

Biology

The Human species was able to interbreed with the Coynite,[1] Echani,[2] Ferroan,[3] Hamadryas,[4] Kiffar,[5] Miraluka,[6] Nagai,[7] Sith,[8][9][10] Theelin,[11] Twi'lek,[12] and a number of other species. When Humans bred with the Kalai, the resulting offspring were known as Lethagoe[13] and with the Zabrak the Dathomirians.[14]

On the other hand, Humans were unable to interbreed with the Anzati, Qiraash, Rattataki, or Umbaran species.[15] Humans were also incompatible with the Keshiri,[16] and Tusken Raider[17] species.

Other compatible hybrid combinations included Borneck with Etti,[18] and Arkanian with Sephi.[19] There was a half-Bothan population[20] on the planet Farfalla.[21] Other incompatible combinations included Gotal with H'nemthe,[22] and Zelosian with Twi'lek and other humanoids.[23] Moggonite were capable of interbreeding with at least one species.[24]

Many species ostracized members who bore hybrid children.[25]

Behind the scenes

According to Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel[26] and Imperial Commando: 501st,[27] and also the X-Wings series of books by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston, Humans and Twi'leks were genetically incompatible. However, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia directly contradicts this, indicating that such pairings could indeed produce hybrid offspring. As it is the most recent source, this article follows the Character Encyclopedia.
