A historian was an individual that researched galactic history. Wolam Tser and Voren Na'al were examples of prominent historians in the galaxy.
Some historians, especially ones that ended up joining the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War were military hobbyists. Despite never having seen combat, they had extensively researched military history and procedures and applied that knowledge to their work with the Rebellion.[1]
Behind the scenes
The "Armchair Historian" was one of the original twenty-four character templates used by the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, first published in the first edition rulebook.[1]
