Gray Wing was the call sign of a Rebel Alliance pilot who flew as a subordinate of Gray Leader[2] Colonel Horton Salm with Gray Squadron,[3] one of the four main Rebel battle formations participating in the Battle of Endor. "Gray Wing" was among the earliest fatalities of the historic battle.[2]
Behind the scenes
The 1983 novelization of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi uses the term "Wing" to refer to both starfighter units and individual pilots. While the novel mentions a "Gray Wing", it is unclear if this is a reference to this pilot or their group.[4]
