Gimer Stick

The Gimer Stick was a "short twig with three small branches at the far end" that Yoda would chew[1] or gnaw on.[2] While training Luke Skywalker, Yoda would also use it to signal him.[1]

The edible twig was found on the planet Dagobah and produces a succulent juice stored in small juice sacs on the bark.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Gimer Stick only ever appears or is mentioned in the Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back novel. In the film Yoda is not shown chewing on any such twig, and signals to Luke with his walking stick instead. It seems that this led to a confusion between the two, with the original Kenner Yoda toy perhaps being the first to label his walking stick a Gimer Stick.[4] The Essential Guide to Characters appears to be the only Canon book that makes this mistake, with a card from the Decipher CCG repeating it.[5] The Jedi Master's Quizbook is ambiguous as to what the stick is, only asking "What kind of stick did Yoda carry?".

The idea that the stick provides juice when chewed seems to be original content to A Guide to the Star Wars Universe which was then repeated in its second edition and the Star Wars Encyclopedia.
