Fire Teams were the smallest unit in the Alliance Special Forces. They consisted of anywhere between two and five troopers; between two and four fire teams made up a squad. Fire teams were usually led by a corporal and worked in concert to defeat enemy forces by laying down cover fire while other fire teams flanked and routed out the enemy.

The Stormtrooper Corps in the Galactic Empire had a similar subdivision among their squads, which were usually split into two and put in wedge positions to take into account all firing directions, with the team leader being at the tip of each "wedge."
