The Espo grenade mortar was a mobile artillery grenade mortar, with an integrated repulsorlift unit. The repulsorlift did not propel the mortar, but did allow an operator to push or pull the mortar into position.[2] The mortar was capable of firing any type of grenade up to a distance of a kilometer, and had an ammunition capacity of a hundred grenades.[1]
The Corporate Sector Authority armed their Security Police with the mortar. A squad of Espos deployed them against laborers involved in a contract dispute.[2] During the Galactic Civil War, a shipment of the mortars were captured during a Alliance privateer raid, and soon became a favorite of Heavy Weapons Specialists serving in Alliance Special Forces.[1]
