Enhancement jewel

An enhancement jewel was a spherical component that could be used in a high-resolution projection system in conjunction with a focusing lens. In 23 ABY, the Wookiee Jedi trainee Lowbacca used such a jewel, which he scavenged from components left by Rebel technicians in the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4, as a crystal in his lightsaber.[1]

Behind the scenes

This component was first mentioned in Young Jedi Knights: Lightsabers, a young reader's book published in 1998 and written by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta as the fourth entry in the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series.[1]
