Elephant
An elephant was said to be a creature as large as a bantha, though without the bantha's tremendous looped horns.[1] The shape of an elephant's head was similar to that of a Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft.[2] The term "white elephant" was sometimes used to describe an unwanted ornament.[3]
The Pryss-creatures of Verig were large, elephantine beasts.[4]
Behind the scenes
An elephant never appears in any source, though is often mentioned when describing other things in the galaxy, such as a bantha.
Real elephants were significant in the production of the Star Wars films. In A New Hope, an Asian elephant named Mardji played the bantha.[5] The movements of the AT-ATs seen in The Empire Strikes Back were based on footage of Mardji walking.[6]
Elephants were also used in the sound design of the films. The sound of a TIE/LN starfighter's engines were the result of mixing cars streaking past and the trumpeting cry of an elephant.[7]
For The Phantom Menace, the design characteristics of the Multi-Troop Transport were based on a massive elephant.[8]
