Directional rocket

A directional rocket was an engine fitted to escape pods. Once launched, an escape pod would orient itself in the general direction of the nearest planet or hyperlane and fire the rockets. When landing on a planet, the rockets were responsible for helping the pod land safely. However, minimal fuel capacity meant that there was only enough power for small directional adjustments and braking once in a planetary atmosphere.[1]
