The Declaration of a New Republic was a document signed one month after the Battle of Endor by the eight leaders of the Alliance of Free Planets, establishing the New Republic. It spelled out to the public at large the government system and ideals of freedom, democracy, and justice that the Alliance hoped to return to the galaxy.

The first four of these signers became the Inner Council of the New Republic Provisional Council.

The excerpt above is similar to the preamble to the United States Constitution, much as the Declaration of Rebellion is similar to the United States Declaration of Independence.
